IANA Performance Report
15 October 2001

ccTLD Nameserver-Only Changes

These statistics show only nameserver changes. Requests that were submitted with multiple changes -- that is, include other than simple Nameserver changes (for example, changes to both Nameservers and contact information) -- are not included in this table. The IANA will update this table at least monthly or as warranted by the addition of new data.

Please Note: The number of days below includes weekends and holidays. ICANN/IANA are also located in the PST zone, which compared to most of world is at the end of most time zones. Both of these circumstances may result in more workdays in the table than the actual working transaction time.

Explanation of fields

Start Date: (mm/dd/yy) This is the date when the IANA received the request at root-mgmt@iana.org. These messages are sent via plain text email, using the change request template.

Serial Number: The IANA processes requests in the order they are received. This number is not a ticket number. It is only used here in this statistical table to facilitate reference to particular items.

Initial IANA Response: This is the number of days taken by the IANA to process the verification/confirmation message that is sent out to both the administrative and technical contacts to verify and confirm the requested changes. The number of days to send out the confirmation/verification message will vary. It is sometimes necessary to communicate with both managers to clarify the requested changes first.

Contacts Confirm: Both the administrative and technical contact must confirm/verify the requested changes to authenticate the request. This is the number of days it took both contacts to reply to the IANA with a confirmation.

Change Submitted: After the IANA verifies the requested changes, it prepares submits a request to make them in the root zone. This column reports the number of days taken by the IANA to prepare and submit the request.

DOC Confirms: This is the number of days taken by the U.S. Department of Commerce to approve the request. Some requests may take longer if the DOC requires more information than presented in the initial IANA request.

VGRS Implements: VeriSign Global Registry Services generates the authoritative root-zone file twice daily. Once an IANA request and DOC approval are received, VGRS makes the necessary changes to the root-zone file. This is the number of days VGRS took to process the requested changes.

IANA Completes: The IANA completes the changes. Upon completion of the changes in the registry system, the IANA informs the contacts that the changes have been implemented in the registry system. This time is not included in the sum as this it is parallel to the "VGRS Implements."

Total: This is the total number of days it took to process the entire transaction.

Total IANA: This is the total number of days the IANA needed to implement the changes and confirm with the managers that the changes are completed, exclusive of the time taken by other parties (the requesting party, DOC, VGRS, etc).
